Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has given no guarantees that Leon Goretzka will remain at the club next season.

Goretzka’s future at the Allianz Arena is uncertain, with his role in the team expected to be reduced next season following the signing of Joao Palhinha to bolster his midfield.

The 29-year-old midfielder was not even a substitute in the team’s last friendly, a 3-0 win over Veske Tirol on Tuesday, and was also absent from the game against Spurs in England.

Bayern Munich closed out its preseason with a 3-0 victory over WSG Tirol, which left sporting director Christoph Freund pleased with what he saw.

“It was an important friendly because many of the boys came back later and now they’ve got minutes. So it was exactly what we wanted. The game served its purpose. It was a decent match and it’s important that everyone has a game under their belt. It’s good that everyone is back now and the coach will choose the right line-up on Friday,”

The club’s sporting director Christoph Freund has spoken about Goretzka’s future, saying: “He is a complete professional and will fight for his place.”

However, when asked again whether the former Schalke player would remain with Bayern, the Bavarians’ chief could not confirm, saying: “We’ll see.” Regardless, Freund does expect Goretzka to compete for a job in the midfield.

Goretzka, who has been with Bayern since 2018, UFABET still has two more years left on his contract, having made 42 appearances in all competitions for the team last season.
