Southampton confirm Ramsdale, Bednarek are injured

Southampton manager Russell Martin has been dealt a blow with the news that key players Aaron Ramsdale and Jan Bednarek will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Bednarek, who has played in every league game this season, picked up an injury while playing for Poland against Portugal during the international break. Ramsdale

underwent surgery on a finger and is expected to be out for a number of weeks.

“They’re both out this weekend and two or three weeks,” Martin said. “

Aaron had surgery on his finger and hopefully he’ll be back in time for Christmas. “Jan,

we spoke very quickly after the game, he was concerned about his knee, thankfully it’s not as serious as we feared. Hopefully he’ll be back in a week or two before Aaron. “

Bednarek is the only player to have started all 11 of Southamption’s league matches this season.

Both players will miss Sunday’s meeting with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

“They’ve been two of our best players all season. Of course it will affect the team and how it looks but others need to step in and take their opportunity.”

Injuries to Ramsdale and Bednarek come prior to a tough run of fixtures for the Premier League’s bottom side.

All of the Saints’ six matches before Christmas come against sides currently in the Premier League’s top nine. They also face Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup next month.

“Aaron has had an operation on his finger, he’ll hopefully be back this side of Christmas,” added Martin.
